BEING teachers during the week and Abba superstars on the weekend represents the perfect combination for Lesley and Peter Watters of Kellyville.Since 1995, the married couple have played the roles of Frida and Bjorn in Abbalanche, the musical, performing the greatest hits of Abba all over Australia and internationally.

Joined by Bob Wheatley as Benny, Danielle Getts as Agnetha, Simon Tonx as Jurgen Dans and Nic Pansin as Hans Fallov, the group have been going strong for more than a decade, collecting a few nominations and awards along the way.

“We won an ACE award for best show in 2009 and we had a Mo nomination for best tribute show,” Mrs Watters said.

“I have been an Abba fan since I was seven years old, so to entertain every week is just great and I know I won’t get bored.”

Mrs Watters who has been singing since she was three said it was quite easy to fit their time performing as Abba into their teaching schedule.

“Weekends fit in well and anything interstate or overseas, like in Bangkok, is done during the school holidays,” Mrs Watters said.

“Luckily, we have very understanding bosses who are quite accommodating to fit everything together.”

With sell-out crowds and an endless schedule of performances, the group have now branched out to cater to children.

“We felt there was a gap in the market so we decided to modify the show for them,” Mrs Watters said.

“It’s generally their first time at a show, so we play up the live band and performances and we interact with them on the dance floor.”

Details: Abbalanche will perform at Castle Hill RSL on Saturday, July 24, at 4.30pm (family show) and 8.30pm (for adults). Tickets are $12 for the family show and $17 for the adults show.
