The tiny dancers who are on a very big mission
The trio will now head to California in July on an all-expenses paid trip to compete in the finals of the Showstopper American Dance Championships.
They will be up against the best in America and vying for the national title.
Maddie, 16, has been dancing at K&V Dance Academy since she was three.
She previously competed against Gemma in a number of competitions over the years, but this time they were dancing in different age divisions.
“I’m really happy to be heading over to America together to show them what we Aussies have,” Maddie said.
“It will be fun to meet new people, be exposed to different styles and experience the atmosphere that American competitions bring.”
For Gemma, 14, this was her third year in the solo competition.
The All Starz Performing Arts student was up against 60 other dancers in the pre-teen division.
“For the past two years I have always made it into the top three,” Gemma said.
“America has quite a similar style so I am looking forward to competing and to see where my dancing will take me in the future.”
This was also the third time competing for Sophia, 11, who has previously made it into the top three and top four.
Sophia said the American dancers had inspired her.
“I’m looking forward to competing against them because they are really good,” she said.
“I have started learning some new routines and I am very excited to be heading over with Maddie and Gemma.”
The national competition will be at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, from July 20 to 24.
