Rising star is happy to blow her own trumpet

YOU COULD say that Jenna Smith has a pretty big musical load. When the HSC student from Como isn’t practising for her exams, her afternoons between Monday to Saturday are taken up by rehearsals and private lessons. Jenna, 17, has played the trumpet for 10 years. The talented musician plans to study music performance when she graduates and wants to join an orchestra. She has lessons with her teacher at Fort Street High School at Petersham, one-on-one sessions with a second music teacher outside of school and takes part in the Rising Stars 13-week program for gifted musicians at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. “Friday is technically my day off, but I like to do my own private practice,” Jenna said. “My goal is to be in an orchestra. There’s no particular favourite for now but I want to travel overseas and see what the options are.” Jenna has been accepted into the National Music Camp with the Australian Youth Orchestra.
