”No stone unturned” says network boss

THEY’VE pitched it as the ‘‘reality event of 2012’’ and a leaked video confirmed what some already knew The Shireis coming.Plugged as Australia’s answer to Jersey Shore, a US reality series about the social lives of eight people who love fake tan, partying and the gym, the promotional video featured snippets of possible cast members talking about themselves in between grabs of the beach. The clip was streamed over social networking site Facebook and YouTube on Saturday before Channel Ten had it removed. But casting calls for the dramality – a scripted reality show – were circling Facebook last year, with the posts revealing production house Shine Australia was search for fun-loving shire residents in their 20s.
A second casting call was posted by online scouting hub Star Now in February to fill the last two roles, with a specific request for a blond male and blonde female aged 20 to 28 to balance out the brunette cast.

Channel Ten said Sutherland Shire was chosen for its ‘‘beauty and tribe-like community’’. The show would offer ‘‘a fascinating look into a unique sub-culture in Australia’’ and marked ‘‘the first time a local dramality series is being introduced to the commercial television landscape,’’ David Mott, Channel Ten chief programming officer, said.
He promised The Shire would leave ‘‘no stone unturned’’ when filming starts Wednesday.
